Mussels 16B

Helford Passage

Property Description

Mussels, at Helford Passage, has undergone a massive refurbishment over the winter months, emerging as a beautifully stylish and contemporary apartment, fully equipped with all mod-cons, yet retaining a rustic charm. The property has sun-bleached wood-effect floors, in shades of grey and brown, and underfloor heating throughout.

Slide open the patio doors and step into the open-plan living area which is a perfect bolt-hole from the hustle of the outside world. The whole apartment has been designed by the owner who spent her childhood in the area, collecting shells on the beach at Helford Passage. She has taken inspiration from the dark-blue wash of the mussel shell and the pink of the local oysters. There's an oatmeal three-seater sofa and matching pouffe resting against a panelled feature wall, lovingly sanded and paint-washed in light grey. You'll also find some cushions, tastefully printed in lobster and sea horse motifs, plus a warm throw for chilly evenings on the beach. Come in at the end of a busy day sightseeing in Truro, put your feet up, select a film on FreeSat, and cosy down with a chilled bottle of wine.

The brand-new kitchen area has a range of fitted units in smart, dark blue, and features lime-washed, grey wooden worktops. Copper tones are used throughout, adding a contemporary feel. You'll find an integrated microwave and oven, plus a dishwasher, combined washer-drier, and an under-the-counter fridge and ice-box. A modern breakfast bar separates the kitchen from the living space. Watch TV from either space, or relax on one of the two contemporary bar stools and enjoy your meal.

The double bedroom brings in nautical touches reminiscent of the location with shell-pink tones and brass ship lights set against a distressed wooden feature wall, made from reclaimed floorboards, again colour-washed in a pale-grey that brings out the different colours and grain in the wood. You'll also find a built-in wardrobe, and a small dressing table. Although at the rear of the property, the bedroom has beautiful views of lilac trees and magnolia bushes.

There's a double shower stall, beautifully tiled in marble-grey, in the new en-suite bathroom, plus a toilet, and a stylish hand-basin fitted on top of a wooden unit which has enough shelf and drawer space for all your cosmetics and towels. A low light automatically comes on when you enter the bathroom, so no fumbling for the light switch in the dark! There's a heated, copper towel rail in here too to keep your bath towels warm and dry. We now supply one large and one hand towel per guest, free of charge.

Outside, there's a terrace running the length of the apartment where you'll find a bistro table and chairs. A perfect place for relaxing in the late afternoon sun with a gin and tonic and the latest bestseller.
And for bookings of one week or more, we'll have a welcome pack ready for your arrival - a bottle of locally made Helford Creek fruit juice, Cornish filter coffee, Smugglers tea, Cornish biscuits, a few sugar sachets and a pint of milk.

There is a £100 deposit against damages required on this property. You'll have one designated space in the residents' car park but, like most of our Helford Passage properties, you will need to leave your car in the car park and walk down a slope to access your property. You can, however, drive through the complex and pull up outside Mussels for unloading your suitcases or shopping bags.

Helford Passage is about a mile from the village of Mawnan Smith. It's on the river - the Helford, of course, with a lovely sandy beach, and direct access onto the coastal path. We've got the Ferryboat Inn on site, which specialises in local seafood dishes and a range of Cornish ales. It holds regular music nights, quizzes and other events during the year, including the Helford Passage Regatta in early August.

You could hire a rowing boat or kayak for the day at the Helford Passage kiosk, or book some paddle boarding lessons. If, like me, you’re a lazy sun-worshipper, then stretch out on the beach with the latest blockbuster and a locally made Roskilly’s Chocolate Brownie and Marshmallow ice cream, or a bag of warm, buttery popcorn. Browse through Sarah’s Shop @ the Beach, for locally made jewellery, quirky gifts, and the children’s all-essential beach-side buckets and spades.

We’ve got an outdoor, heated swimming pool on site too, with poolside loungers, chairs and parasols. It’s in a secure area behind a coded gate, so it’s safe for the little ones.
From the kiosk, you can catch the foot ferry across to Helford Village, meander up the leafy path to the Shipwrights Arms and enjoy a homemade pasty and a glass of cold, Cornish cider. If you fancy something a little more energetic, you could wander along the river shore and explore Daphne Du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek. The ferry runs into the evening during the season so there’s no rush back – take your time, relax and enjoy.

Trebah and Glendurgan gardens are just a few minutes away, and stunning at any time of the year. Falmouth is our nearest town, where you'll find the National Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle, plus various pubs and restaurants.

We've got fishing trips nearby, golf, cycling, horse-riding, seaside fish and chips, coastal walks, art galleries and stunning beaches. A perfect base for family breaks.
