L1 Spindrift

Helford Passage

Property Description

Welcome to Spindrift! Situated above the Ferryboat Inn, this beautiful property has undergone major remodelling - once a two-bedroom apartment, dressed in a traditional style, Spindrift now has three double bedrooms, each with its own designated bathroom, and has emerged as a stylish, contemporary residence with stunning views of the Helford River. You'll love the large, tiled terrace with patio table and chairs, making this an idyllic spot for basking in the sunshine and watching the boats glide past.

There are fourteen steps down into the apartment, and you'll then find everything on one level. It's decorated throughout in crisp white, with modern artwork adding depth and colour. Through the front door, and to the left of the property, you'll find two bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, hand basins and toilets. Both bedrooms have two single beds that can be made up as twins or king-size beds. Please let us know your preference at the time of booking. You'll find a double, mirrored wardrobe in each room and white bedside tables, so there's plenty of room for all your belongings.

You'll have a spacious utility area with a combined washer-dryer, and lots of space for hanging up coats and storing your beach gear. The whole floor area of the apartment is laid with wood-effect tiles and underfloor heating, making this an ideal choice for lazy summer days or winter breaks. There is also extensive acoustic insulation under the floor and in the roof-space, keeping the property cosy and quiet.

Through to the combined kitchen, dining area and living space which runs the length of the apartment, and affords spectacular river views from three sliding windows - that's six metres of pure view! The kitchen has built-in units in a glossy white, and is fully equipped with oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, kettle and toaster. There's a kitchen island providing extra storage and worktop space. The dining area has a contemporary glass table and eight chairs, perfect for family suppers or a riotous game of cards. Spindrift was once part of the original Ferry Boat Inn. Could you be sitting, enjoying your morning tea, where General Montgomery or actor David Niven once sat and admired the view?

In the living area, you'll find a comfortable three-seater sofa and two matching armchairs, all in a warm biscuit colour. Perfect for gazing out of the windows, or settling down after an adventurous day on the river, by choosing a great film on FreeSat and relaxing in front of the fifty-eight-inch television.

You'll access the master bedroom from the living area via two sliding doors. In here, you'll find a super-king bed, a double mirrored wardrobe, plus those essential bedside tables. The en-suite, fully tiled in modern charcoal-grey, has a double walk-in shower, hand basin and Gerberit automatic toilet - what luxury! There's a shelved vanity unit, mirrored and back-lit, providing plenty of space for your cosmetics. You will adore this bedroom; keep the sliding doors open and wake up to a fantastic view of the river resembling an idyllic scene from Swallows and Amazons. It's a space to really relax and breathe in the peaceful scenery.

For bookings of one week or over, we'll have waiting a welcome pack of Helford Creek apple juice, Smugglers tea, Cornish filter coffee, Fairings biscuits, a pint of milk and a few sugar sachets.

You'll have shared use of the outdoor, heated swimming pool. Spindrift has one designated space in the residents' car park, right outside the apartment. Further parking is available in the non-residents' car park, just a stroll up the hill. There is a £200 refundable deposit against damages required on this property.

Please note: there is a small wall and then railings on the balcony edge, therefore we don't recommend this property for anyone with toddlers unless they are always under strict adult supervision.

Location

Helford Passage is about a mile from the village of Mawnan Smith. It's on the river - the Helford, of course, with a lovely sandy beach, and direct access onto the coastal path. We've got the Ferryboat Inn on site, which specialises in local seafood dishes and Cornish ales. It holds regular music nights, quizzes and other events during the year, including the Helford Passage Regatta in early August.

You could hire a rowing boat or kayak for the day at the Helford Passage kiosk, or book some paddle boarding lessons. If, like me, you’re a lazy sun-worshipper, then stretch out on the beach with the latest blockbuster and a locally made Roskilly’s Chocolate Brownie and Marshmallow ice cream, or a bag of warm, buttery popcorn. Browse through Sarah’s Shop @ the Beach, for locally made jewellery, quirky gifts, and the children’s all-essential, beach-side bucket and spades.

We’ve got an outdoor, heated swimming pool on site too, with loungers, poolside chairs and parasols. It’s in a secure area behind a coded gate, so it’s safe for the little ones.

From the kiosk, you can catch the foot ferry across to Helford Village, meander up the leafy path to the Shipwrights Arms and enjoy a homemade pasty and a glass of cold, Cornish cider. If you fancy something a little more energetic, you could wander along the river shore and explore Daphne Du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek. The ferry runs into the evening during the season so there’s no rush back – take your time, relax and enjoy.

Trebah and Glendurgan gardens are just a few minutes away, and stunning at any time of the year. Falmouth is our nearest town, where you'll find the National Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle, pubs and restaurants.

We've got fishing trips nearby, golf, cycling, horse-riding, seaside fish and chips, coastal walks, art galleries and stunning beaches. A perfect base for family breaks.
